    4.-Train to the Devil´s Nose:

    The Devil´s Nose Considered one of the world’s best railway engineering feats, this scenic railroad travels over a series of switchbacks as it zigzags down the steep mountainside passing small villages and Andean lakes along the way. Starting in Riobamba the train rolls through a variety of climate zones for a a really short time. As you pass over the Andes to the village of Simbambe, the train drops in altitude from aprx. 8000 ft to about 1000 ft in a mere 45 minutes. The highlight of the trip is to overcome the 100m high, prominent rock also called the “Devil’s Nose”. Experience the thrill as you wind through mountainous terrain on this unforgettable journey.

    5.-Mountain Biking in Baños:

    Adventure in Baños Enjoy the a downhill mountain bike tour to the peaceful village of Banos as you pass roughly 35 miles with 360 views of unbelievable scenery. Along the way, you can stop to admire the numerous waterfalls before you drive further into the tropical climate of the rainforest. At the foot of the excursion you will find the Tungurahua volcano of the Andes and the entrance to the jungle of Puyo.

    6.-Cotopaxi:

    Cotopaxi Volcano Rising 19,347 ft towards the equatorial sun, the Cotopaxi volcano is the second highest volcano in Ecuador. Clearly distant from the Quito skyline, Cotopaxi is also one of few mountains with an equatorial glacier atop its peak. Alexander von Humboldt, the first European who tried to climb the summit only got half way, however you can be one of few that actually trek to the summit with guided tours and assistance to get you to the top.

    7.-Cuenca:

    City of Cuenca The third largest city in Ecuador is definitely worth a visit as you pass through historic buildings of colonial charm and bustling markets. The El Sagrario is of particular interest, which was built in 1557 more than 455 years ago. Linger around the city as you venture to different museums, churches, and galleries or stop off to by some authentic souvenirs. Want more nature, then a trip to El Cajas National Park would suite you, having over 275 Andean lakes and many places to just relax and enjoy your surroundings.

    8.-Exotic Cuisine:

    Exotic Cuisine In addition to the unforgettable scenery and historic landmarks, Ecuador offers travelers delicious and even exotic cuisine dishes. Come taste the varieties of savory soups, potato side dishes and hearty meat meals in Ecuador or be more adventurous and try the roasted guinea pig called Cuy.     Rafting Throughout the region, Ecuador offers a wide variety of white water rafting trips from the calm rivers to the Class IV rapids in the Andes.     Biodiversity With 46 different ecosystems, Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, and not just on the Galapagos Islands, but on the mainland as well. Ecuador boasts more than 1600 bird species, which is more per kilometer than any other country in South America. In addition, Ecuador has 4,500 types of butterflies, more than 3,000 species of orchid and a total of more than 25,000 plant species, which is 10% of the world’s total. Ecuador offers plenty of opportunities to observe all of this biodiversity through national parks and ecotourism.

    Cultural Diversity Besides Ecuador’s biodiversity, it is very culturally diverse, as well. Approximately 65% of the population is mestizo, meaning of mixed indigenous and Spanish descent, while 25% are indigenous, and the remaining 10% are of other ethnicities, including people of African descent. There are 15 recognized indigenous groups in Ecuador, speaking 11 different languages. These groups vary greatly especially by geographic region and each has its own special customs and traditions to share.

    Geographic DiversityBiodiversity While this factor is related to biodiversity, it is not entirely the same. Ecuador is composed of four regions: Galapagos, coast, highlands, and jungle. Each region has its own climate, activities, flora, fauna, and spectacular views. This great geographic diversity packed into one country, means that in one trip to Ecuador, you can snorkel with a sea lion, lie on the beach, climb to the top of a snow-capped mountain, and canoe down a jungle river. This makes Ecuador ideal for those travelers who can’t make up their minds about where to visit next and simply want to do it all.

    Small Size The best things come in small packages, and this is certainly true of Ecuador as well. Not only does Ecuador have all the diversity mentioned in the previous three points, but it is packed into an area the size of the state of Nevada or the UK plus Belgium. This means that it is easy to explore all that diversity in a short amount of time and makes travel within the country quick and flexible. Larger countries with main attractions more spread out require careful planning in order to visit everything a traveler wants to. However, in Ecuador, nothing is more than a 14-hour bus ride from the capital, making flexible travel planning possible.

    Good Weather Being on the equator, Ecuador enjoys relatively the same weather year-round. Of course, climate and temperature change between regions and altitudes, but, in general, Ecuador offers very good weather all year long. The highlands region is very temperate because it is on the equator, but at a higher altitude, giving very spring-like weather. This can at times mean rainy, but usually it is sunny. The coast and Amazon regions are much warmer, but also fairly constant throughout the year. This all means that there is never a bad time to visit Ecuador.

    Friendly people Ecuadorians are naturally friendly and helpful. They enjoy receiving visitors to their country and are proud that foreigners travel to Ecuador.     Experience art Ecuador is also a great place to visit to experience art and has been for centuries. During the colonial period, the Quito School of art was a special style reflecting the mix, and clash, of cultures that occurred during colonization with clear indigenous touches added to commissioned Catholic religious works. Quito is also the birthplace of renowned artist Oswaldo Guayasamín, whose art also has a clear Latin American flair. In addition, the many artisan markets throughout Ecuador display new and ancient handicrafts made by indigenous communities.

    Visit Equator Ecuador is the only country that offers the opportunity to visit the site where the French Geodesic Commission first measured the equatorial line in 1735 in order to determine the circumference of the Earth. The site now hosts a monument and museum allowing visitors to touch the equator and learn about its historical significance.

    Quito The history of this beautiful colonial city, full of legends woven over more than 400 years, is still alive in the memory of its inhabitants. To find its origin it is necessary to go back in time to the 6th of December in 1534, when the Spanish conquistadors founded the city with 204 settlers. Before then, the present-day site of Quito was inhabited by the Quitus, a tribe from the Quechua civilization in a strip of land that stretched from what is now Cerro del Panecillo in the south to Plaza de San Blas in the center. Called the Kingdom of Quito in the Pre-Hispanic period, buildings in this ancient city were made of carved stone and sun-dried brick. Later, Spanish architects incorporated the same materials into their grandiose constructions. At the beginning of the 16th century, the city adopted a monumental style with the construction, by the various Catholic missions, of the impressive temples of San Francisco, Santo Domingo, La Catedral and San Agustin. The main events during this period took place in or around these temples, which helped promote religiousness among the people.
